The Lake Regions

Seneca

Seneca Lake is the deepest of the eleven Finger Lakes in Central New York. Even though winter temperatures can fall below zero, Seneca Lake rarely freezes over. This makes it an excellent area for growing grapes. The size and depth of this beautiful lake helps to moderate the weather conditions which makes the shores warmer. This is good news for the vineyards surrounding the lake. Likewise the sloped terrain makes for prime growing conditions.

Keuka

Keuka Lake is very recognizable on a map for its unique Y shape. For the photographer in you, the place where the Y shape converges makes for breathtaking photos year round. Because of Keuka’s shallow waters, it is one of the warmest of the Finger Lakes. Not only is it known for its unique shape with regard to the rest of the Finger Lakes, it is also the only lake in America that flows both north and south!

Cayuga

About the Lake

While smaller in depth and surface are than Seneca Lake, Cayuga Lake is the longest of the eleven Finger Lakes. It is just under 39 miles long and is about 3.5 miles at its widest point. Cayuga Lake also offers an incredible wine trail. It reports that it is America’s first wine trail. Check it out here.
